About International Fashion Showcase

The British Council and British Fashion Council will collaborate for a second time on the International Fashion Showcase in February 2013.

The inaugural International Fashion Showcase saw 19 embassies and cultural institutes across London open their doors and display the work of 93 international emerging designers from 24 countries. It meant that the public, together with international press and buyers, could explore the collections of some of the most innovative, emerging fashion designers from around the world.

The first project on which the British Council and the British Fashion Council collaborated, this showcase formed part of the Fashion 2012 Cultural Programme and was developed to celebrate the year of the Olympics and Paralympics and honour its values of international respect, excellence, equality and friendship. Countries participating in this showcase included Australia, Belgium, Botswana, Caribbean, China, Croatia, Estonia, Italy, Japan, Korea, Netherlands, Nigeria, Philippines, Poland, Romania, Sierra Leone, United States and Uzbekistan.

Each country was asked to present a selection of emerging designers whom they felt most represented the future of fashion in their region. For the first showcase, Sarah Mower MBE, BFC Ambassador for Emerging Talent and Contributing Editor to US Vogue, chaired an advisory panel that judged each piece of work. The award was won by Korea who the panel deemed to have presented the best emerging fashion talent showcase.
