ART SCHOOL is a unisex label based in London, focused on redefining the limitations of ready to wear gendered fashion. Directed by the creative partnership of Eden Loweth and Tom Barratt, the label is informed by the designers' backgrounds as fashion and art criticism graduates respectively. They have worked with some of the most prominent emerging designers of the time including LVMH prize winner Grace Wales Bonner.
Art school is a platform for the designers to express their collective ideas both in art and design using luxury fashion as a communicative tool to explore contemporary queerness. The label is informed by the founders and their friends non-binary gender identities.
Debuting at London Fashion Week Men's in AW17 with the support of Fashion East, ART SCHOOL showcased a performative presentation in collaboration with the Theo Adams’ company featuring a cast of friends and loved ones. SS18 & AW18 saw the designers elevate onto the catwalk with the support of the Fashion East Man initiative. In May 2018 art school joined the ranks of Alexander Mcqueen and Iris Van Herpen by creating a live studio for photographer Nick Knight's Showstudio, reinforcing the ART SCHOOL's collaborative spirit and working process, culminating in a durational three-hour performance piece with trans performance artist Grace Oni Smith and a cast of ART SCHOOL icons.
ART SCHOOL aims to celebrate the idiosyncratic individuality of queer style.
ART SCHOOL show their first pre-collection offering within the women's schedule at London Fashion Week in September with an installation at 180 Strand.
