Artist statement: Inspired by women’s constrictive and structured undergarments through history, this project looks to subvert the socially constructed ideals of femininity into powerful statements. Largely inspired by traditional corsetry, as well as undergarments such as the bustle and panniers, this collection aims to celebrate the feminine experience and make the wearer feel beautiful, rather than to manipulate the body in conformity with societal standards. This collection uses strong, structured garments and silhouettes, balanced with delicate details and sheer fabrics, informed by my own photography and visualisations of the expectations of femininity today.
