As a womenswear fashion design graduate, I believe clothing is a powerful visual language that expresses our personalities and moods. I find myself drawn to fabrication and construction to communicate this form of self-expression. Taking these elements into careful consideration continuously questions possibilities for my design The inspiration behind ‘As I was’ stems from the confidence that we had as children with our clothing; unbridled by the social constructs surrounding dress and prejudices taught as we grow up. I've taken direct inspirations from 1990s workwear, children's clothing, and costume. Through this lens, I aim to show how the changes in our dress impact us emotionally. It highlights that, in adult life, a sense of playfulness with clothing can be lost and relegated solely to the stage. With this collection, I wanted to spark a conversation of how we can rediscover that sense of theatre and freedom with our clothes, just like we did effortlessly when we were younger.
