My work aims to build a relationship between hyper-feminine, romantic imagery and dark, foreboding themes which comment on current/prospective issues in the world. I employ couture techniques to create beautiful pieces with tragic meanings. This project in particular tackles the conflicting, nihilistic thoughts and feelings of a generation facing a bleak, hopeless future. My research focused on fashion of the early 1960s and the early 1860s, two eras which signified society on the cusp of progress and, by consequence, opposition. For this project, referencing this marks a feeling of contradiction and false hope shared amongst young people today. This collection gives the wearer the strength to enjoy the last luxuries and joys available to them as the worlds crumbles at the hands of the most powerful – to go out with a bang.
