This collection explores identity and resilience, shaped by my upbringing on the border in Dundalk, Ireland. It reflects on the complex history of the Troubles, a time when Irish people were treated as second-class citizens under British rule, and the lasting presence of the IRA. Each look is inspired by someone I know personally or a story passed down to me. Dundalk often nicknamed “El Paso,” informed my use of Western influences, especially through fabrics like denim and leather. Stripes appear throughout, referencing WWI dazzle camouflage designed to confuse and conceal mirroring the quiet codes of survival that defined everyday life. The project is a tribute to Irish history and the Fenians who fought, and still campaign, for independence. It honours a community that stood its ground and refused to be silenced.
