Liana Grigorjeva, a recent fashion design graduate at Leeds Art University, is known for her approach to womenswear and has developed a strong foundation in research skills, print, textiles, and illustration. Throughout her academic journey, Liana explores research related to her family relatives in the USSR and World War II, which had a significant impact on history. Liana began painting illustrations, which helped her become more inspired while experimenting. This helped her develop textile print, exploring the use of different media and prints worn by past relatives. This also consistently pushed her creative boundaries by pattern cutting in various ways. Dresses made by Christian Dior influenced the big, voluminous skirts and dresses he made. Her Final Collection, “The Warmth Beneath The Blue”, explored cyanotype printing in different ways, using different toning methods to create a vintage tone blended with blue. Using embroidery became an integral part of the print outline, adding texture. Inspired by nature and the historical past, the collection showcased craftsmanship and a new printing technique that showcases an innovative printing idea still in need of exploration within fashion. During her time at Leeds Art University, Liana gained industry experience through an internship over the summer at Eden Keshia. She learned and refined her technical skills by hand sewing and adjusting patterns. This also helped her gain her confidence when entering her final year at university before making her collection. Liana Grigorjeva is currently based in Leeds, where she is continuing to develop her line focused on pattern cutting and print. Her craftsmanship designs that she aspires to create take a long time and are of a high standard. This will reflect an approach to beauty and print. She also wants to incorporate painting into her illustrations, as it is her most effective medium.
