The Spirit of the Sunflower is a tribute to my brother Kyle, who lived with Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy and inspired me with his strength and optimism. Like his favourite flower, Kyle brought light to those around him. This collection honours his memory through Skye, a fictional muse from our hometown of Burry Port, who embodies warmth, resilience and individuality. Flowing fabrics reflect the rhythm of the sea, while sunflower-inspired accents bring vibrancy. These are contrasted with biker influences—denim, structure, and rugged textures—capturing Skye’s duality: ethereal yet grounded. Inspired by stained glass and the idea of light through darkness, I use layered, fragmented techniques like Intaglio Strati. Upcycled textiles and mixed materials create relaxed, expressive pieces. The Spirit of the Sunflower celebrates storytelling, creativity and love. Like the sunflower, it turns toward the light—even in hard times.
