‘Checked Out’ is a subversive womenswear streetwear collection inspired by Michael Wolf’s Transparent City. It explores the tension between public and private space - the stark exteriors of city buildings contrasted with the intimate, personal worlds created within. The collection delves into the notion of concealment and exposure: how we attempt to hide and protect our inner lives, even as they remain visible through the windows we live behind. Drawing visual cues from 1980s streetwear brand Parachute, the sculptural forms of archive Issey Miyake, and the intimacy of Irving Penn’s photography, the collection explores structure and contrast. An array of check fabrics were used to evoke the warmth of the interiors, a symbol of comfort and routine. Some of these fabrics were over-dyed in black to suggest transparency and vulnerability, creating an illusion of walls that no longer fully shield, but reveal.
