My project is about the mixing of my Ghanaian heritage alongside my own personal style. Since starting this project, I found that it had morphed into mixing traditional African fabric into “paintesque” fashion. I want to challenge the notion of beauty. As a Black woman, I am intrinsically linked to my beauty, as it affects how I am perceived in all situations. The idea of femininity, something that was not always given to Black women, was something I really strived to showcase in this project. The idea of being whimsical and dainty were phrases that were not something I personally felt could be attributed to me so this collection is a ‘screw you’ to that sort of ideology.
