My ‘aDapting Heritage’ brand encompasses self-expression, ambition and motivation through accessible fashion, deeply rooted in the story of my family friend’s accident which left her paralyzed from the waist down. After critical research analysis of current Human-centred design, I found that the biggest limitations were the balance between function and aesthetic in adaptive clothing. Connecting with consumers, understanding personal needs, and desires as wheelchair users was essential, and a new perspective focuses on ease of dressing, adaptability and the balance of function and aesthetic. My research is influenced by my equestrian background, weaving a narrative that connects personal heritage with inclusivity. Growing up within a community that encourages and inspires your passions was a focal message to communicate. Intertwining my own heritage, I have upcycled bridles and saddlery from my personal collection of unused leather and re-invented adaptive, multi-use & aesthetic design.
