My work is driven by a love for movement and the beauty of process. It is a space for me to explore the personal intersection between my dedication to dance and my development as a creative, through the simple act of making. Practicing iterative art processes, I have been able to examine how the body navigates instruction, resists rigidity, and embraces a loss of control. I have come to understand that movement is a response, a negotiation, and a form of enquiry in itself, revealing what emerges when direction meets instinct and control gives way to motion. With a focus on the body’s relationship to clothing and taking up space, I have found the key concepts of proprioception and kinaesthetic awareness to be paramount in developing my understanding of audience interaction and spectatorship. The tension between self-directed movement and deliberately imposed action, stimulated by Modern dance, has allowed me to feel the emotional contrast between the desire to establish a creative identity and the persistent pull of the familiar, camouflaged world of inherited teachings and conditioned expression. My creativity is marked by the evolution of a personal artistic style shaped by resistance and uncertainty. Investigating space through a multidisciplinary lens, embracing my strengths in direction, and exploring my passion for dance through art, has enabled me to understand that process is my purpose.
