This conceptual womenswear collection explores female identity through transformation, liberation, and rebellion. Rooted in themes of sexuality, freedom and religion, the project began as a creative response to Yorgos Lanthimos’ film Poor Things. The film’s protagonist is unbound by traditional norms, inspiring a narrative around a woman becoming self-defined physically, emotionally and spiritually. This served as a catalyst for my collection, sparking an exploration of restriction and freedom, femininity, and the complex dynamics of power and control. My designs are an embodiment of culture, history, and the political landscape we navigate every day. As a designer, my work is a dialogue between my Irish heritage, my political beliefs, and the media that continuously shapes our understanding of femininity. I believe that my designs are not entirely mine; they are an accumulation of images, sounds, and ideas that I collect from the world around me, from the films that have influenced me to the music that pulls me. My exploration of femininity is grounded in a raw understanding of both restriction and freedom. Through the materials I use, particularly leather, and my focus on structure and silhouette, I create pieces that embrace the tension between these two forces. Leather, a material often associated with toughness and rebellion, is juxtaposed with the delicacy of the female form, reflecting the complex nature of modern womanhood. My collection is not about confinement, but rather about presenting the possibility for movement within boundaries. Through my work, I aim to create garments that speak not only to the wearer but to the broader context of identity, power, and liberation.
