For my collection I was heavily inspired by nature and the spirituality that goes hand in hand with nature, believing many people find comfort and peace in nature. I have applied textile techniques to my collection in order to embrace the textures of natures elements in a physical way. The fast fashion industry affects more than just the environment with labour and animal harm also being prevalent in both the production and waste of fashion. That is why I decided to work only with repurposed denim found in local charity shops where unwanted or damaged clothing can be given a new life and appreciated in a new way so that more clothes do not end up in landfills. With the use of denim jeans I created a patchwork theme throughout the designs which were directly inspired by trees and fields I’ve seen amongst nature. The textiles techniques that I used were also made sustainably and ethically with only natural dye being used and no extra unnecessary chemicals being exposed to the environment. Due to the nature of denim wears’ production and the conditions it is made in I distressed my collection heavily to pay homage to the denims past life whilst also celebrating nature by naturally growing crystals using alum powder to represent natures resilience and resistance against anything man made. Overall my collection was designed to present natures power to always overcome whilst acknowledging the factors of industialisation in the modern day using denim as a way to showcase how hard and rigid materials can be seen in a different view point to encapsulate natures beauty that is often overlooked.
