Samantha Gillett-Jones is a fashion designer from De Montfort University who brings a materials first approach to her design work. Her final major project, 'His end was peace' is participating in the Artifacts Live 2 exhibition with a focus on leather craft. Throughout my time at university, I have brought my identity as a transgender woman into my design work in several projects. For my final major project I wanted to look at the current talking points around gender reassignment surgery, more specifically the popular anti-trans notion that this surgery is 'mutilation'. I wanted to play around with this concept and explore the resilience of those who choose to undergo the procedure despite how others might view them.
