Concerning the Disappearance of Alix P. is an exploration of both drape and flat pattern cutting, utilised to exaggerate the feminine form through cloth. Through researching both Madeleine Vionnet and Madame Grés, I explored the bias through draping various weights of jersey fabrics to create sculptural yet minimal silhouettes, married together to give formalwear a modern ease. By cross-referencing two iconic female couturiers with Deborah Turbeville's first Vogue editorial 'Bathhouse' I aim to bring leisurewear and couture together to create formalwear that can be worn on many occasions. I aim to give my consumer a new perspective of jersey, showing it can be luxurious and the wearer does not have to sacrifice comfort in-order-to dress formally. Using the female forme as a silhouette, I hope for my drape to be unique to each wearer, highlighting the silhouette within and distorting their form through drape and spiral cutting which plays with the bias.
