My Jewish heritage holds deep significance in my life, shaped by the legacy of my great grandfather, who’s parents moved from Russia and Poland to London in the 1880s. As part of the wave of Jewish immigrants seeking a better life, they settled in the East End which was largely populated by Jews , starting from nothing. He worked in the rag trade, specialising in tailoring and menswear. My grandfather learnt from his father (my great grandfather) in which they had their own small factory in the East End of London. They created their own designs, patterns, made the garments and sold them to different companies. Coats and jackets I own have been passed down from my great grandfather have inspired me to carry on this tradition and follow my families footsteps. The heirlooms and stories passed down from him have had a lasting influence on me, not only in terms of the skills he imparted but also the traditions that continue to guide me. Embracing the East End, where so many Jewish immigrants built their lives and careers, I carry forward the techniques and values that my great grandfather, and many others, passed down.
