Untamed landscapes, rich in the history of their people, serve as both inspiration and canvas for the soul.” Amanda Savinelli, raised near the coastline of Llangrannog in Ceredigion, draws heavily from the native landscapes that have shaped her identity, culture, and artistic vision. Her latest collection captures the rugged, untamed beauty of the Wild West, profoundly through deep historical narratives of its people, particularly the events of the Rebecca riots. The colour palette predominantly features striking black, grey and white tones, representing the shadows of those who have come before. At the same time, the bold flash of red symbolises the passionate spirit of the nation. These hues echo the steep hills and rugged rocks that define the coastline she calls home. The collection's textures are a harmonious blend of manipulated pleats and contemporary designs, harking back to the exposed headlands and coastal Cliffs. It also includes a repurposed Welsh shawl from the 1840s. Printed textiles are created through rubbings of the local rocks and incorporate silhouettes of Welsh symbolism, including the iconic Welsh hat. Silhouettes inspired by traditional Welsh garments, notably the ‘Betgwn’, have been reimagined with a modern twist and structured yet flowing, tailored coats that evoke the mystery of the Wild West. Billowing shirts capture the movements of the sea, allowing for personal expression. This gender- neutral collection prioritises style, making it accessible and appealing to all, regardless of gender identity. Each piece is crafted to make it timeless and classic.
