It takes freedom to leave, take a risk, and see a new part of yourself and the world. This work takes inspiration from growing up in Seattle Washington and looking back on the isolated Pacific Northwest. As I started this work I read Jack Kerouac’s‘On The Road’ as it became a key point of reference throughout the year. I also have been investigating tailoring, American modern artists, vintage construction methods, and the history of workwear. My practice revolves around working with the hand, showing construction methods, and reimagining iconic American silhouettes. For me, it is crucial that the work carries a sense of honesty. To me that means being honest with the materials allowing them to speak for themselves and be honest with the silhouette. Using a hand stitch allows there to be a sense of the making in the garments and being able to be direct and bold. This series is for the wanderers and lives in the space that we inhabit on the way to somewhere, the jobs that we take out of necessity, and who we become on the way to becoming ourselves.
