Ruwanthi Gajadeera is a Sri Lankan–born Material Artivist and MA Fashion graduate at the Royal College of Art. Her practice braids heritage craft, marine science and scent into participatory textiles that ask us to feel climate data before we read it. In response to Sri Lanka’s X-Press Pearl disaster, she created S.O.S – Save Our Seas, a multisensory platform that translates ocean monitoring data into cyanotype prints, upcycled garments, soundscapes and an olfactory score developed with IFF, which shifts from a seaweed scent to a petrochemical scent. Winner of the Taiwan Fashion Design Award and finalist at Redress, her work has been featured by Vogue and exhibited from London to Hong Kong. She works with waste streams, natural dyes, handloom, and zero-waste cutting, utilising repair techniques as a language of care. Ruwanthi's vision is to turn supply chains into story chains, thoughtfully connecting stakeholders to craft fashion that reflects memory, responsibility, and hope.
