My Major Project will delve into the life journey of my grandad Billy, a marine fitter whose career took him to the farthest corners of the globe. He travelled from port to port, repairing ships, whilst his passport became a reflection of the rich cultural tapestry he experienced. Collecting clothing and banknotes from countries around the world, with powerful stories and history, these treasures, embody the impact that cross-cultural exchange can have on the soul. His mementos inspire my collection, highlighting his personal connection to the people and places he encountered and demonstrating how travel and human connection shape our shared cultural heritage. My collection acts as a dynamic time capsule, merging the physical and digital realms. Through my digital twins, I preserve my grandfather’s travel stories within a virtual space, offering an innovative, future-facing interpretation of memory. Beginning my development process with digital versions of subliminal printing, denim etching on Clo3D and various fur trialing using Blender. I expanded knowledge on digital garment creation when developing my knitwear with my external industry contact. The knitwear within my collection is sponsored by my work placement Jo Y Jo. The team at Jo Y Jo allowed me to develop my knitwear using their digital knitwear softwares both Shima, Shima3D. The final knitwear readings were achieved using Clo3D to incorporate a scene and lighting set-up that effectively illustrates the realness of the Shima3D knitwear. The digital development of fur was achieved through a combination of Clo3d and Blender to bring life and movement to the Mongolian lambs fur. The final digital twin outfits will be made available through qr code scans on the physical garment care label. While my concept draws deeply from the past, it challenges the traditional ways we archive memories, presenting a digital perspective on how moments in time can be captured and stored within technology.
