My final collection is deeply inspired by my heritage, exploring how it contrasts with my personality and how these elements come together through the symbolic ‘Poppy.’ Through researching the history of my hometown and city, I’ve reflected on how my past and present differ, highlighting the contrast between the harsh realities of war and the enchanting world of fairytales. This duality is central to my work, with the collection blending the strength of military aesthetics with the delicate beauty of fairytales, all united by the recurring motif of the Poppy flower. The shapes and silhouettes in the collection are inspired by fairytales, while military-style trims and detailing ground the designs in a sense of resilience and structure. This fusion reflects both the softness and strength that I see in my heritage and in my personal identity. Sustainability plays a key role in my process. To minimize fabric waste, I develop my patterns in half scale, then use Gerber software to scale them up, reducing the need for multiple full-scale toiles. This method not only conserves resources but also allows for a more efficient design process. I’ve also sourced 100% cotton and silk fabrics, aligning with both my theme and commitment to sustainability. These natural fibers reflect the organic elements of my designs and contribute to a more sustainable approach.
