I am a designer who designs not for myself but with purposeful concepts and emotive language behind it. The change from where I started at university to now, is two completely different people. My design philosophy is deeply rooted in the programming and engineering of the brain, understanding how the appearance on the outside, can be polar opposite to the inside, such as dementia. Having the ability to reflect it within fabrications alongside garments. Naturally, I have gravitated towards menswear as a specialism, functional wearability with traditional details in sportswear and outerwear. The deconstruction of a functional garment with the purpose of chaotic but minimalist, keeping the elements of historical features with innovative sections of freedom and colour. Traditional silhouettes of shape and functionality are placed in an untraditional placement. Not losing the value of I traditional functionality but bringing my design to create deconstruction. The attention to detail is what I believe makes the quality of a garment less likely to be thrown away, having an understanding of why you're making this, and with what purpose. 'In every five garments 3 end up in landfill', the use of overproduction in the fashion and textile industry leads to consequences like fibres polluting the oceans, the water, and toxic dyes. It is an issue I don't want to be a part of. The understanding of the purpose of utilizing overproduced fabrics and scraps is a key factor in my practice. The concept of Wabi Sabi, 'the beauty lies within imperfection', demonstrates the direction of my work follows, the 'imperfections' is the focal point of my practice.
