My collection, Too Much Fighting On The Dancefloor, explores British identity through the lens of my South London upbringing, the music I was raised on, and the cultural diversity that shaped my community. My research focuses on the late-1960s emergence of skinheads as a multicultural, working-class youth movement influenced by Caribbean immigration, rude boy style, and ska music. Elements of the skinhead 'uniform' are manipulated through smocking techniques to redefine silhouette and surface, while prints explore ideas of exposure and misinterpretation. Leather, suede, denim, two-toned fabrics, and varying scales of check create visual contrast throughout the collection, while sharp collars and structured shoulders are balanced with rounded silhouettes and softened forms. At its core, my collection is a celebration of cultural unity and diversity within Britain, using fabric manipulation, print, and silhouette to propose a contemporary vision of British fashion.
