My graduate collection, ‘On Your Bike’, was inspired by stories of my grandma sporting her heavy, impractical traditional Norwegian dress while cycling across Europe in the 60s. This led me to consider the conflict with the aspirational consumerism surrounding outdoor culture today, where specialist gear is often framed as essential for participation. Primary research, including surveys with women to highlight recurring issues and unmet needs. I conducted movement experiments to identify ways to innovate existing garments. Design details, such as the integrated snap bands featured trousers, address practical concerns in a considered and reimagined way. Sustainability was central throughout the process. Using upcycled materials, including a 1966 nylon parachute, bike inner tubes, discarded t-shirts, and windsurf sails, I have been guided in many ways by their properties. Each garment balances technical performance with comfort, style and adaptability made to last, with movement in mind.
