Jiabei Zheng’s graduate collection, The Shape of Love, explores modern poetic femininity through the relationship between fragility, strength and sensory perception. The collection proposes clothing as a form of “sensory skin”: a tactile and emotional surface through which the wearer negotiates memory, feeling, movement and selfhood. Drawing on the silent grandeur of Greek sculpture, Jiabei develops garments that balance softness with structure. Classical references are not treated as fixed historical images, but as a way of thinking about the body, drape, balance and stillness. Through hand-draping, layering and considered fabric manipulation, she translates fluid emotion into silhouettes that feel both ethereal and resilient. The collection is defined by this tension: garments appear delicate and atmospheric, yet are held by an underlying architectural strength. Jiabei’s design process is rooted in close observation. She is interested in the woman who moves through the world with heightened awareness: someone sensitive to atmosphere, touch, memory and emotional nuance, but also quietly assured. This wearer does not use clothing simply as decoration or display; instead, garments become a private language, carrying traces of feeling and experience. Dressing becomes a dialogue between the body and the self, between the visible exterior and the interior life of the wearer. Materially, the collection uses softness, transparency, layering and draped volume to suggest emotional movement. These elements are counterbalanced by sculptural form and controlled construction, allowing the garments to hold both vulnerability and force. Jiabei’s work sits between garment and atmosphere, using womenswear to create a sense of suspended intimacy: clothing that seems to breathe with the body while also protecting it. The Shape of Love reflects Jiabei’s interest in how fashion can express emotional intelligence through form. Rather than presenting femininity as fragile or decorative, the collection reframes it as perceptive, complex and structurally powerful. Through poetic drape, sculptural reference and a refined sensitivity to the body, Jiabei creates a collection that speaks to tenderness without losing strength.
