UNTAMED lives to redefine masculinity from the perspective of a masculine-presenting, non-binary lesbian. Underpinned by an extensive research project resulting in a dissertation on the ways in which lesbians have engaged with and reinterpreted the cowboy within mythology, film, music, and fashion, the collection merges both lesbian and cowboy histories and aesthetics to create a powerful statement of pride in personal identity and queer self-expression. At its core, UNTAMED stands to challenge traditional gender norms by embracing alternative masculinity, which is inclusive, empowering, and authentic to those who identify outside of the binary. Its title, UNTAMED, references wildness, defiance, and self-ownership, embodying a raw, rebellious, and unapologetic identity. Through the primary use of timeless fabrics such as denim and leather, excessive hardware, and cowboy-inspired aesthetics, UNTAMED stands to realise these ideas through garments that balance strength, utility, and expressive detail, creating a collection that is both visually striking and practically grounded, where identity is embedded within design and embodied through wear. Each look takes after the names of famous female outlaws and women of the Wild West: Calamity (Jane), (Belle) Starr, (Annie) Oakley, and (Sadie) Adler.
