As a designer with a focus in Womenswear and textile manipulation, I am inspired by themes rooted in mythology, tales and art, and aim to create in the realm of contradiction. To build upon this conflict I explore ideas of music and historical contexts. In my professional practice I create womenswear garments using construction methods including tailoring and creative pattern cutting. Surface embellishment and Fabric manipulation are also cornerstones of my practice. Techniques including beading, embroidery, metal work, slashing and constant experimenting are how I achieve this methodology. My main final year project is titled ‘Triunity’. An Autumn/Winter collection for the 26/27 season. It follows the witchcraft theme of Maiden, Mother and Crone, a symbol of divine femininity, juxtaposed with punk. The triplicate nature of the collection follows the young, ethereal Maiden, the warm, homely Mother and the conservative, haggard Crone. This triplicate nature follows through the collection and is extended to a triple muse. A muse for each stage of the triple goddess. My maiden, Jenna Ortega, Mother, Helena Boham Carter and Crone, Stevie Nicks. Each chosen as they represent each era in their own lives. The muses were also chosen as their fashion sense is often alternative, witchy and a little bit punk. The collection has a mix of varying fabric weights used to represent the three phases of womanhood and the constant changes we go through as people. Deconstructed fabric techniques and surface embellishments showing varying stages of distress help express the toll of life and constructs on our lives. These techniques are coupled with silhouettes inspired by King James the VI/I, a strong voice in the call for witch hunts in the UK.
