I am dedicating my final project to my great grandfather, Iorweth Gwynfe Evans, and his impact as a Squadron Leader and Flight Lieutenant as part of the RAF 76th Squadron during World War II. His plane was shot down, he deployed his parachute and survived, but was captured as a prisoner of war in Camp Stalag Luft III B. Once the war had ended, he was eligible to become a member of the Caterpillar Club, an exclusive worldwide club created by the parachute manufacturer Irvin, where the only requirement to join is to have saved one's life using an Irvin parachute from a stricken aircraft. The collection translates this personal history into modern garments that combine WWII aviation references with contemporary utilitarian design. Oversized silhouettes, durable materials, and functional detailing express themes of protection and adaptability while honouring heritage through subtle references to parachutes, aircraft schematics, and Caterpillar Club symbolism.
