Titled Hiraeth, after the Welsh word describing a deep, innate longing for a home, person or time that is unreachable, my collection explores themes of displacement, memory, and imagined belonging. Inspired by my own Welsh heritage, Hiraeth captures the emotional terrain of loss and yearning through the fusion of woven textiles and the strength of metal wear acting as anchors of support. Garments may appear unfinished or slightly ill-fit­ting, reflecting the fragmented and unresolved nature of memory and longing. Through textile processes such as weaving, layering, beading and frottage - embrac­ing intentional knots, loose ends, and irregularities - the work captures imprints of the past and reflects the fragility of memory. Lightweight, sheer fabrics like chiffon and organza are layered to imitate the presence and weight of heavier materials. Cocooned, oversized silhouettes envelope the wearer in a sense of safety, as if safeguarding the memories stitched into every garment. Exaggerated trails and godets inspired by the form of the weeping willow - a symbol of loss and mourning - extend from the garments, creating a lingering sense of longing. Silver wear specifically is something I am drawn to and an element of my personal style that I’d like to incorporate to my work - working as anchors to those fleeting moments, symbolizing the strength and perma­nence of memory. This is a collection where the act of wearing becomes a quiet ritual of remembrance - each piece invites the wearer to carry the past with them in the most personal, meaningful way. An embodi­ment of longing, legacy, and the invisible threads that tie us to the past.
