Cava: The Anatomy of Discomfort is a multidisciplinary publication exploring discomfort not simply as something to be endured, but as a productive and deeply human experience. Rooted in research into nostalgia, the origins of the circus, the psychology of morbid curiosity and Ellen Sampson's thesis titled Worn, my publication questions not only why discomfort unsettles us, but why it holds our attention. Drawing on imagined and familiar narrative worlds, Cava examines quieter forms of tension such as repetition, compliance, restraint and subtle control. It explores how the body and fashion imagery can communicate complex emotional states. Rather than offering resolution, my work invites readers to remain within ambiguity, encouraging reflection on the behaviours, systems and expectations that shape both individual experience and our relationship with the world around us.
