AWARDS TEXTILE SPONSORSHIP: Zandra Rhodes Foundation x Ravensbourne Fashion Collaboration Project Eve Morell is a womenswear designer whose process centres on environmentally conscious design, she combines sustainable craftsmanship with historical research. Working with natural fabrics, she hand dyes her textiles using completely non-toxic, natural elements to create organically aged surfaces that celebrate the beauty of the passage of time. Blending Victorian pattern cutting with contemporary womenswear, she incorporates authentic Victorian materials, including handmade lace, silk, and embroidered panels, preserving their craftsmanship while giving them new life through modern design. Her graduate collection pays homage to the Victorian era, drawing inspiration from its innovation, engineering, and exceptional craftsmanship. Influenced by Victorian tailoring, garment construction, and the crinoline cage, she reinterprets historical techniques to create contemporary garments that appear unearthed and naturally aged rather than reproduced from history. Using original Victorian patterns as a foundation, she develops modern silhouettes through draping while incorporating subtle references to early flying machines. Natural dyeing with logwood and oak galls reinforces the collection’s historical narrative, it reflects the nineteenth century dyeing techniques, and supports her commitment to sustainable practice. Raw edges, visible stitching, and antique embroidered textiles communicate themes of deterioration, preservation, and rediscovery, while layered silk construction and sculptural crinoline forms reference Victorian methods of internal support and early aviation. Through the fusion of heritage, craftsmanship, sustainable processes, and contemporary tailoring, Eve utilises the ingenuity of the Victorian era while reimagining its legacy for modern womenswear.
