Ashley Yen Nhi Phan is a concept-driven fashion designer whose work explores culture, tradition, and personal identity through contemporary silhouette, textile development, and visual storytelling. Ashley’s design practice is rooted in the transformation of cultural stories into contemporary fashion objects. Rather than beginning from a purely decorative approach, she uses observation, memory, and material experimentation as the foundation of her work. Her design language often combines structured silhouettes with hand-developed surfaces, creating garments that feel both sculptural and emotionally connected to place. Her graduate collection, Hanoian, reinterprets Hanoi’s street life through a contemporary lens while reflecting on the distinctive cultural identity of local community shaped over generations. Inspired by street vendors, plastic stools, tangled wires, aged walls, and the rhythm of sidewalk life, the collection captures the city’s raw, poetic, and chaotic beauty. Through hand-crafted textiles, hand-painting, and tactile surface development, Ashley creates sculptural garments that carry memory, movement, and the urban spirit of Vietnam.
