Olucci Oko is a British Nigerian and Jamaican womenswear designer whose practice explores the relationship between leather craftsmanship, textile innovation, and cultural identity. A graduate of the BA Fashion Design course at the University of Westminster, where she was awarded a First-Class Honours degree, Oko creates contemporary womenswear that reimagines heritage through material experimentation, bold colour, and movement. Specialising in leather, Oko’s work is distinguished by her innovative approach to combining leather with self-developed printed textiles. Rather than treating leather as a standalone material, she integrates custom-designed prints and textiles inspired by Nigerian visual culture, transforming traditional references into contemporary luxury womenswear. Her collections celebrate the richness of Nigerian prints, vibrant colour palettes, and layered textures, reflecting both the visual language and energy of cultural ceremonies. Movement is central to Oko’s design philosophy. Drawing inspiration from Nigerian dance ceremonies, she explores how colour, rhythm, and performance shape the emotional experience of clothing. Her garments are designed to move with the body, capturing the joy, confidence, and sense of community found within celebration. This dialogue between dance and fashion allows each collection to become an expression of identity, memory, and cultural storytelling. Her dual British Nigerian and Jamaican heritage informs her perspective as a designer, allowing her to create work that bridges tradition with contemporary British fashion. By translating cultural narratives into modern silhouettes and material innovation, Oko creates collections that honour heritage while speaking to a global audience. Alongside her creative practice, Oko is committed to responsible design. Sustainability is embedded within her process through the thoughtful reuse of surplus fabrics and production offcuts, which are transformed into accessories and complementary pieces. This circular approach enables her to minimise waste while extending the creative possibilities of each collection. Oko further developed her technical and creative expertise through internships with R&M Leather and Mowalola, gaining valuable industry experience in leather craftsmanship and contemporary luxury fashion. These experiences strengthened her commitment to pushing the boundaries of leather within womenswear while refining her distinctive creative voice. Through her work, Olucci Oko seeks to redefine contemporary leather fashion by celebrating culture, craftsmanship, and innovation. Her collections invite women to embrace individuality through garments that are vibrant, expressive, and deeply rooted in the stories, movement, and traditions that continue to shape her creative practice.
