As a womenswear designer, my practice is driven by curiosity, experimentation and a belief that beauty often exists within the overlooked. I am instinctively drawn to materials that others dismiss, whether forgotten fabrics discovered in a £1 bargain bin or the residual potential of dye sublimation transfer paper. My design process rarely begins with a sketch; instead, it starts with material experimentation. By allowing materials to lead the conversation, I uncover new possibilities and let the process shape the outcome rather than imposing a predetermined result. Growing up from a resourceful upbringing taught me to see limitations as opportunities rather than obstacles. That mindset continues to shape my work today, encouraging me to challenge conventional ideas of value by transforming inexpensive or discarded materials into refined garments and textiles. Serendipity plays an essential role in my creative practice. I embrace unexpected outcomes, believing that accidents often lead to the most innovative discoveries. While exploring ways to reuse dye sublimation paper, I designed a custom print and transferred it onto fabric using 30 mm paillettes placed between the transfer paper and the cloth. Repeating the process over three layers produced an organic polka dot surface that became the defining print of the collection. The printed paillettes were then repurposed as embellishments on another look, extending the life of every stage of the process while reinforcing my commitment to thoughtful material innovation. My work is equally informed by close observation of everyday life. The layered print unexpectedly resembled a photograph I had taken inside a castle, where a chandelier cast intricate shadows from ornate Rococo handrails across the floor. Recognising this connection reinforced my belief that inspiration often exists in ordinary moments, provided we take the time to notice them. I enjoy revealing hidden beauty through observation, allowing seemingly insignificant details to influence both the visual language and technical development of my collections. Alongside textile experimentation, I enjoy pushing the boundaries of creative pattern cutting. In this collection, I transformed the pattern of a car seat into a fluid draped top, reinterpreting a functional object through the language of fashion. I am continually motivated by solving technical problems through experimentation, where innovation emerges from the unexpected. Ultimately, I aspire to create modern, tasteful and fluid womenswear that demonstrates how artistic experimentation can be seamlessly integrated into everyday dress, encouraging others to discover beauty where it is least expected.
