Fidelma’s collection meditates on the experience of loss, pain, and rebirth – when one has faced the worst, what is there left to fear? Could one’s life improve through losing something they never imagined they would be without, an essential element of their personality? Life’s unpredictability and troubles are not an end point for an individual but could shape somebody into the unique person that they are destined to become. Inspired by research into Phantom Limb Disorder, Adam Curtis documentaries, and Bertrand Bonello’s 2023 film La Bête, Fidelma travels through decades of absence and presence, memory and hurt, cutting through layers of pain and redemption. Using bespoke tailoring techniques, flou methods, intricate lace appliqué, and layering decorative items, each look delves into various eras of time, creating a collection that is unsettling, familiar, historical, and fictional, all in one.
