This collection breaks apart my name and stitches it back up into something new. Sarah means Princess in Hebrew; ‘tywysoges’ is the Welsh translation (born and raised in Carmarthenshire, I was taught Welsh before I was taught English, and thus sometimes I feel it is my most primal and formative inner tongue, the one that feels like primordial soup). ‘Tywysoges’ is a mythic, feminine symbol. Much of what I do is inspired and brought about by the scraps of fabric I find in various places, primarily in my Grandparents’ houses. Something about using old scraps of this nature gives the pieces an energetic life for me, and births ideas. Patchworking in various forms is an important part of this collection, and it speaks to me because it allows even the tiniest fragment of salvaged beauty to be made into part of something wearable.
