‘Pipeline” is a collection inspired by the history of surf culture and surf wetsuits. I explored jack O’neils ‘superset’ and my exploration of zips in my designs were due to this. I learnt of the history of surfing in Japan and how the Vietnamese war propelled Japan into westernised modern day surf culture due to the American soldiers brining their fibreglass boards over. Through fabrication I portrayed the foamy texture of wetsuits without having to use only neoprenes and scubas. For example using double faced thick jersey for my blue mini dress look allowed for a visual similarity with more practically.
