'The Gossipmonger' is a woman's wear collection that will explore the relationships of women with their hairdresser. The hairdresser listens to stories from di8erent clients allday some scandalous gossip and some heartfelt stories, the hairdresser uses these stories and shares them with other clients gossiping and twisting stories to get a di8erent perspective of the same story from a di8erent customer. The gossip becomes an addiction for the hairdresser they become one Gossipmonger someone everybody wants to near from but never wants to tell their own stories too. Over the time spent together going through lengthy processes of dying, perming and cutting hair, trust is created between the gossipmonger and their clients, not just that they won't spread their gossip but that they won't mess up their hair. This collection will show how the gossipmonger can often have a bad reputation but has regular clients who come back every week to hear what is new, creating bond over many appointments. The bond between client and hairdresser has many avenues from lighthearted humour to deeper stories when the hairdresser tries to protect their client physically with towels, gowns and gloves. By sharing gossip, the hairdresser can make connections and spread awareness for issues within the community. Taking inspiration from hairdressing structures and symbolic representations found within the salon. I endeavour to use this as a construct within my pattern cutting, figuring out how these shapes can be reinterpreted into a fashion context.
