As a designer, I am constantly questioning what clothes mean to people - how they wear them, what they need from them, and why certain garments hold personal significance. Understanding the stories behind the rips of a jacket or the stretched stitches of a jumper, my aim is to create clothes that will be kept beyond the trends. To be loved, inherited, and invoke memories. Every Stitch Counts reflects these ideals through the memories and experiences of the women at Furnivall Sculling Club. Archival images of rowing uniform from the 1920s and 30s inspire silhouettes while modern uniforms inform details and layering. Textiles reinvent heritage patterns and techniques of torn pinstripes and lacy knits, encapsulating the people and surroundings of the club. This collection celebrates the feeling of joy and belonging that Furnivall has brought me. A capsule collection for women who wear “everyday couture”, comfortable and functional for everyday wear, but contains artisanal craftsmanship.
