My graduate collection ‘In Communication’ investigates community through the lens of fashion and textiles. Combining both fashion manufacture and knitted textiles the project investigates the dynamic between friends, family and loved ones. While maintaining a focus on creating wearable, functional garments this collection is an ode to my love for written letters and handwriting. The project culminates in a collection of looks that attempt to capture the tender moments in which we reach out to each other while also connecting to the body of work from my first few years in Gray’s. From telephone wires to carrier pigeons, the innovation prompted by our need for connection provides the visual landscape for my work. Talking, listening and writing the collection pulls inspiration from my own experiences and relationships with my friends and family.
