This project explores the idea of life being presented as a performance, carefully constructed for an audience while the reality of backstage remains hidden. Through my collection I wanted to reveal the tension between appearance and reality, exposing the fragility, chaos and imperfection that lies beneath a persons polished exterior. I have drawn influence 1920's theatrical performance combined with relaxed tailoring silhouettes from that era. I wanted to take these traditional silhouettes on a journey, transforming the collection into something more experimental and innovative whilst maintaining the sense of elegance and refinement . Textiles became a key part of my collection, experimenting with unconventional materials such as horsehair and stitching, using them for something that losses their true purpose rather than being used for functional components. The collection embodies themes of deconstruction and exposure through, slashing and cutting away elements that seem detached or collapsed. These details challenge the viewers impression, revealing things that may be different from first glance, using trompe l'oeil within print and textiles, layered construction and structural manipulation, creating visual distortion and showing the contrast between surface and truth. Sustainability plays an important role within my collection, incorporating deadstock fabrics such as wool and leather and giving them a new purpose. Several garments are modular and adaptive, allowing pieces to shift and fit in multiple ways- this reiterates the idea that perfection is not necessary
