This sportswear collection for female surfers combines functional design with innovative pattern cutting, using past season shipping samples sourced from outdoor apparel brands. Throughout my degree, I collected fabric off cuts from previous projects, shredding and repurposing them as insulation for my puffer jacket and bag. By designing with existing materials, I challenge the need for new resources and advocate for a more circular approach to fashion. Inspired by brands such as Parley x Dior and Adidas, which transform ocean plastic into performance textiles, the collection responds to the issue of marine pollution. A seaweed-inspired print runs throughout the garments, celebrating the plant's vital role in absorbing carbon and supporting healthy ocean ecosystems. Designed for cold-water surfing during the British autumn and winter, the collection prioritises versatility and function. It includes a multifunctional dry robe that converts into a shorter waterproof jacket and towel/changing mat, a large puffer jacket that transforms into a windbreaker and sit mat, a relaxed pullover fleece, printed jeans, a long-sleeve base layer, quilted joggers, and yoga pants. Looking ahead, I envision each garment carrying a digital product passport, enabling consumers to trace its materials, production journey, and lifecycle. By encouraging transparency and a stronger connection between people and their clothing, the collection promotes mindful consumption.
