'An Alpine start' is centred around a personal interest in mountaineering, inherited from close family and passed down the generations. It intends to navigate the longstanding relationship between fashion and function through the lens of mountaineering and extreme alpine outdoor pursuit. Drawing upon lived personal and family experience whilst referencing the wider context and history of mountaineering and climbing culture. Integrating modern materials and technologies with the elegant silhouettes of historical mountain wear archetypes, combined with elements of the theatrical to accentuate key features of technical adventure equipment and capture the energy and extreme nature of the Alpine environment. The collection aims to achieve an experimental interpretation of what mountain wear could be, whilst maintaining functionality as the foundation for design. In blending elements of functionality and theatricality the collection is targeted to appeal to an audience with and interest in fashion for adornment as well as clothing to be worn in pursuit of the enjoyment of alpine Adventure.
