His practice spans fashion, history, and cultural memory, with a particular focus on the social and political histories of the twentieth century. Drawing on Chinese traditional culture through a contemporary lens, Yuan reconstructs historical archetypes through material experimentation, deconstructing and reassembling historical dress into new visual languages. Working between tradition and transformation, Yuan approaches fashion as a medium for cultural memory and reinterpretation, exploring new ways of expressing identity and heritage within a contemporary context. Collection "ECHOES OF TOMORROW" Echoes of Tomorrow begins as an act of listening—towards histories that were erased and displaced. Drawing from personal family archives spanning the Cultural Revolution, the Reform and Opening-Up period, and the new century, the project traces a lineage of interrupted idealism. It reflects on a moment when internationalism, collectivism, and belief in a shared future were lived realities, before dissolving into the logics of contemporary society. The collection unfolds across three chapters: People from the Field, Echoes of a Long Past, and Echoes of Tomorrow, forming a generational narrative shaped by my grandparents' memories. From rural collectivist experience to post-reform survival, to fragmented recollections within my own generation, history reappears as echoes. It is a gaze toward what has been lost—restrained, yet quietly optimistic. In today's uncertainty, these echoes trace a possibility of the future: a hope no longer grand, but still gently present.
