Coco is a recent graduate from Leeds Arts University, in Fashion Design and garnering a First-Class Honours degree. Other recent, notable achievements being shortlisted for a live brief collaborating with Saville Row designer clothsurgeon, long-listed for two awards at Graduate Fashion Week, being accepted into Leeds RAG Fashion show and an internship offer embroidering in Leeds. Throughout her fashion career, Coco has been consistently driven by political and social issues throughout history and into the present day. She tells stories through print and textile, blending fashion with art. Coco has a passion for telling stories through print and textiles, which began during her Foundation year where she studied Fashion Design at the University of Creative Arts Canterbury and earned a Distinction. Her self-led brief surrounding the work of the Suffragettes and the wider suffrage movement was brought to life with large-scale screen-printed tapestries and machine embroidered garments. Her love for textile design flourished in Leeds Arts University; she developed multiple unique fabric designs, utilised her embroidery skills by hand-stitching intricate designs, learning new techniques as well as developing her own and draping on the stand to create standout silhouettes. These skills were particularly prominent in her final major project titled Mothers which investigated the harsh realities of the journey of pregnancy, birth and motherhood around the world, societal standards and pressures throughout history and their impact on mothers today, while still acknowledging the gratifying experiences of motherhood. While aiming to have this body of work available to all, she decided that accessibility would be at the forefront of her career. This accessibility will be through displaying her Avant-garde work in museums and galleries, with her contemporary garments advertised as rentable. This supports her ethos of art belonging to everyone and brings her a step in the right direction of designing and creating sustainably.
