My collection, Nazar, which translates to ‘evil eye’ in Urdu, examines how Pakistani women are impacted by the idea of Nazar. Women are always conscious of social security, since they are frequently advised to cover themselves or stay hidden in order to avoid evil eye or, basically, bad luck. I address that thinking with my womenswear line by tackling the fear of Nazar with bold, unconventional styles. I use surrealism to highlight physical distortion, using themes of hands, which stand for societal pressure and control, and eyes, which symbolise the Evil Eye. I combine classic motifs with flowing, unusual shapes, drawing inspiration from Pakistani fabrics and designs. Utilising pre-existing textiles and leftovers to minimise waste was a key component of the project’s sustainability. In conclusion, Nazar challenges how society perceives women and examines perception, identity, and protection.
