'ADHDulthood' - ADHDulthood is an editorial fashion communication project that explores the lived experience of women with Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD). Inspired by my own journey of receiving a diagnosis in early adulthood after years of misunderstanding and misdiagnosis, the project aims to increase visibility, understanding, and representation for women whose experiences are often overlooked. Taking the form of an underground editorial-style magazine, the project investigates three interconnected themes: Time, Masking, and Burnout. These concepts form the foundation of the narrative, exploring the emotional, psychological, and social challenges that many women with ADHD encounter throughout their lives. Through a combination of styling, photography, art direction, and visual storytelling, the magazine communicates the often unseen realities of living with ADHD while balancing societal expectations. The visual language of the project embraces authenticity and vulnerability. Raw, honest imagery is used to capture both the internal and external experiences of ADHD, creating a narrative that feels relatable and accessible. Experimental styling and carefully considered photographic approaches are employed to reflect the different emotional states associated with each theme, resulting in a publication that moves fluidly between moments of chaos, concealment, exhaustion, and self-discovery. At the heart of ADHDulthood is a desire to challenge misconceptions and broaden public understanding of ADHD in women. While awareness of the condition has increased in recent years, female experiences remain underrepresented within mainstream media, leaving many women feeling isolated or misunderstood. This project seeks to address that gap by placing personal storytelling and lived experience at the centre of the conversation. Alongside the publication, a community-focused launch event extends the project beyond the page, creating a space for connection, discussion, and shared experiences. Ultimately, ADHDulthood demonstrates how fashion communication can be used as a powerful platform for advocacy, representation, and social change, transforming personal experience into a collective and empowering dialogue.
