My project is titled ‘Unspoken Feelings’. This project explores themes of my own emotions, through the use of poetry, specifically Rumi’s poems. It looks at visual representations of these poems, which resonate with my emotions and personal thoughts. This project looks at my own disordered feelings and chaotic thoughts and displays them out in the open, to allow me an escape. The collection has a moody aesthetic, with pale soft elements, creating a somewhat depressive atmosphere, reflective of my inner feelings. There is a focus on layering, as a metaphor for hidden emotions, we layer within ourselves. Some emotional layers are always visible, some are hidden and some come up unexpectedly. I use Rumi’s poems to express my inner self, using each phrase, word, and emotion to inspire my weave and garment design. My textiles have a handmade feel with the use of rough stitches, pulled threads and ribbons that come out. I create layers embroidering parts of Rumi’s poems onto the garments, allowing the viewer to find these hidden elements, like hidden emotions.
