I would consider myself more as a sculptural artist than a fashion designer- I enjoy tactile experiences and making things with my hands. I love fashion particularly because it is art that you can wear, and therefore become. I think there is something valuable in that. One of my core values in life is self-expression and that translates to my art; I love colour, texture, weirdness. I am drawn to figures like Lady Gaga and Ashnikko for their styling and creative process, how they don’t shy away from being strange. Another of my core values is sustainability and I strive to be resourceful and environmentally conscious in my creative endeavours. This particular project stemmed from a single article which described cases of “AI psychosis” in which individuals grew to believe that the AI chatbots they had been messaging were sentient beings, or even gods. I found it intriguing how technology was able to convincingly replicate human behaviour. I began thinking about a fictional future and I created my own dystopian hypothetical world, a synthetic, plastic future drenched in unnatural neons and alien shapes. The looks I create are characters; rebellious dwellers of this future who represent a distorted vision of humanity in a world where technology has wormed its way into every aspect of life. I want my work to provoke intrigue- I want people to see it and want to feel it or try it on and leave as little environmental impact as possible in my artistic process.
